News organizations in the Middle East, Africa and Turkey can apply for funding.
The Google News Initiative is launching its third GNI Innovation Challenge in the region, which will support projects that drive digital innovation, focusing on reader engagement and new business models in any form.
Projects will be evaluated against five criteria: innovation, impact on news ecosystem, diversity, equity and inclusion; inspiration; and feasibility.
The selected projects will be eligible to receive up to US$150,000, not to exceed 70 percent of the total project cost.
The deadline is Apr. 5.
