Newsroom teams in the United States, with at least one reporter and one editor, can apply for a fellowship.
Democracy SOS, along with the Solutions Journalism Network and Hearken, is launching its fellowship to help newsrooms think big, plan long-term, and reinvent politics, governance and elections coverage with and for their communities.
The nine-month Democracy SOS fellowship will support reporters and editors in significantly strengthening journalism’s role in advancing democracy through innovative approaches that build civic engagement, equity and healthy discourse.
Participating newsrooms will receive stipends of up to US$5,000 along with coaching and training worth about US$50,000 from the sponsoring organizations.
The application deadline is Feb. 7.
